The Uganda ORCID Hub is a web-based tool that allows Ugandan research institutions to authoritatively connect their researchers, students, and staff to ORCID records. This enables institutions to assert affiliations and funding relationships, improving the visibility and credibility of researchers' contributions both locally and globally.
Back to topIf you are part of a RENU Federation member institution, log in via the federation login option using your institutional credentials. If your institution is not federated, you will receive an email invitation from your institution to access the Hub and link your ORCID iD. Once linked, you can continue logging in via ORCID.
Back to topLog into the Hub using your institutional credentials or via an email invitation. You'll be prompted to authorize your institution to update your ORCID record. Based on your institutional role, an employment or education affiliation will be added, and you'll see your institution listed as the source in your ORCID record.
Back to topThis helps validate your professional identity and affiliation. It provides credibility to your ORCID record, allows your institution to streamline reporting and funding processes, and supports national and international visibility of Uganda's research community.
Back to topYes, if your institution is part of the RENU Identity Federation and ORCID has enabled federated login via eduGAIN. You can use your institution's credentials to access your ORCID record through the federation login option.

Back to topThese are privacy settings in ORCID. Public means anyone can see the item. Trusted-party means it's shared only with approved organizations. Private means only you and the source can see it.
Back to topActivities include employment, education, funding, and research outputs. When you grant permission to your institution, they may write to these sections of your ORCID record.
Back to topYou can. However, we recommend keeping the box checked to allow long-term permission (up to 20 years). This enables your institution to make updates without asking for authorization every time.
Back to topYes. ORCID allows you to customize permissions. You can deny full access and instead authorize only limited access like read-only.
Back to topLog in to your ORCID account, go to 'Account Settings', and remove the organization under 'Trusted Organizations'.
Back to topYes, but ORCID lets you choose which version to make public. You can hide or delete duplicates if needed.
Back to topIf your institution provides richer data, that can be written to ORCID through the Hub. Contact your institution's ORCID admin to check if this is supported.
Back to topYes. When prompted to log in, choose the option to register for a new ORCID iD directly through the Hub.
Back to topContact your institution's ORCID administrator or email orcid@renu.ac.ug to request assistance.
Back to topYes. Your institution can use the file upload option if it is a Uganda ORCID Consortium member. You'll receive an email invitation to participate.
Back to topIf your institutional login is disabled, you can still use the "Login via ORCID" option to access the Hub if your record is already linked.
